Cadence Network Partners With Arbor Day Foundation

Expense Management Firm Adopts Arbor Day as Corporate Philanthropy

March 16, 2005

Cincinnati, OH – March 16, 2005 – A tree can cut energy usage and preserve our environment, and if you see a tree being planted at your local store in the next month, there’s a good chance one Cincinnati company has something to do with it. As the leading energy expense management firm, Cadence Network is dedicated to continually finding ways for multiple site businesses to save money through better procurement and more efficient use of finite natural resources, and today announces that it has officially partnered with The Arbor Day Foundation.

Long a stalwart of conservationism and environmental stewardship, The Arbor Day Foundation promotes the use of trees in beautification and energy conservation, finding that businesses and homeowners alike can reduce their energy consumption by up to 20 percent, while protecting our environment for future generations, by placing trees in key locations.

Cadence CEO Jeffrey Hart explains, “Our two organizations align on several strategic initiatives – conservation of natural resources and a reduction of paper. Trees reduce energy dependency while also protecting our environment for future generations. And through our paperless invoice processing and auditing solution, businesses satisfy financial compliance regulations, save precious labor resources, gain significantly more information for actionable business intelligence, and ultimately save energy and money.”

According to Arbor Day marketing director Kevin Sanders, Cadence Network is a partner who “puts their money where their mouth is. Cadence has saved millions of dollars for its clients by implementing better energy usage and procurement strategies and continues its commitment to conservation by adopting The Arbor Day Foundation as its official corporate philanthropy. Together, we can more effectively share the importance of energy conservation and initiate nationwide programs to educate businesses and their stakeholders.”

“If you can avoid spending the money by something as simple as planting a tree – do it! The temperature shaded by a tree is frequently 12 to 15 degrees lower than unshaded asphalt or concrete surfaces typical to most business locations,” Hart explains. “Also, strategically placed trees provide shade for buildings, further reducing the temperature inside a business by as much as ten degrees – the equivalent of hundreds of dollars per monthly invoice per location.”

He also points to the use of deciduous trees, those that lose their leaves in winter, as an added bonus, because they allow the warmth of the sun to come through in winter, further reducing heating requirements. He says, “A well placed tree not only reduces energy requirements, but also creates a more inviting atmosphere for customers, improves the productivity and morale of employees, and raises property value.”

Arbor Day is April 29 and over the coming months, Cadence will be providing trees to hundreds of clients throughout the United States. Cadence provides energy and expense management services to a large and growing number of multiple site business’ locations in North America, and has saved millions of dollars in finite natural resources through its industry leading CadenceEnterprise™ software and expense management experts.

“We can all stand to use less energy, and for multiple site businesses, energy savings can result in a significant hard dollar savings each and every month,” Hart says. “I believe it is important that we all play our part, and for Cadence, we find ways to save dollars and utilize energy more efficiently each and every day for our clients – and we certainly encourage more businesses to take us up on that.”
