Cadence Network Proves Energy Efficiency Pays in Hard Dollars, Delivering Over $210 Million in Customer Savings to Date
Since 1997, companies have collectively saved over $210 million by partnering with Cadence and leveraging their sophisticated business model that decreases costs associated with electricity, gas, waste, water, sewer, leasing, and telecommunications

Cincinnati, OH—June 11, 2007 – In the past 10 years, 150 of the nation’s largest companies—many of whom had already done their best to optimize energy efficiency—have saved an additional $210 million plus, by adopting cost-cutting expense management programs run by Cadence Network, Inc. These savings establish Cadence as the only expense-management firm in its industry whose customers have reaped these significant hard-dollar savings in such a short time frame.
“Some of the best minds in energy management are heading up the utility, lease, and telecom expenses at these companies, and they do a marvelous job,” says Jeff Hart, President and CEO of Cadence Network. “Even so, by turning to Cadence these companies were able to recoup additional savings that go straight to their bottom line. Our team truly understands the expense management market, and provides our customers with knowledgeable, sound advice to help ensure they’re getting the best prices out there.”
Cadence Network has helped companies in the banking, government, restaurant, retail, hospitality, and grocery industries achieve fiscally smart expense management by focusing on three core areas:
Rate Analysis that identifies and compares rate options. Cadence leverages its proprietary National Rate Library to ensure companies are aware of money-saving alternative-rate programs, tariff discounts, and utility incentives. On average, Cadence has uncovered $23,500 in savings a day through these initiatives. For example, Cadence helped a client with sites in Michigan uncover a rate increase on one site’s electric bill—from $11,000 a month to $19,000. Cadence’s auditors worked with the utility provider to reconcile the increase, and secured a $14,100 credit on the next invoice.
Utility Invoice Auditing that quickly resolves errors between vendors and clients. Cadence’s scalable invoice auditing process works in two steps. First, Cadence gives each invoice a thorough financial review prior to payment. Second, the invoices are processed through a proprietary electronic program where they’re evaluated against 30 criteria to detect errors and anomalies. Cadence used this process to help a retailer discover that one of its 5,000 store locations was being billed three times more per kW than another store of the same size. Cadence performed a site visit, and observed that the store’s meter needed to be adjusted. The result: The company received a refund (plus interest) from the utility for overpayment in the amount of $246,000.
Energy Procurement Consulting that matches clients with electric and gas suppliers. Cadence analyzes and shops its nationwide network of energy suppliers to obtain competitive prices for customers in deregulated markets, and find the appropriate program. Then Cadence compares it to customers’ current energy payments and creates a comprehensive business case consisting of a financial analysis, a risk assessment outlining the advantages and disadvantages of the energy proposal, and a recommended supplier contract. Cadence recently completed an electricity procurement contract on behalf of several clients with a total of 800 sites located in Texas, who pooled together to create a bigger incentive for the energy supplier. In the end, the participating clients will save over $500,000 a year under this new contract.
Since 1997, Cadence has customized solutions to address the unique business requirements of companies with multiple sites and vendors dispersed across various geographic locations. They specialize in negotiating electricity for corporate-owned stores and associations, helping them drastically reduce their electricity costs in deregulated areas.
