Government Waste Nothing New, Way To Fix It Is

Cadence CEO Says Government Can Save Millions Simply By Managing Expenses Firm

September 13, 2004

Cincinnati, OH -- September 13, 2004 – Taxes are too high, yet governments are forced to continue to find ways to do more with less, which continues to burden an already overburdened taxpayer. Cadence CEO and expense management expert Jeffrey Hart says that his company can help governments find ways to fund more programs or cut taxes if they simply outsource energy and telecommunications expense management.

“Over the years, Government waste has been well documented, but in the area of energy and telecommunications, it is relatively easy to fix,” Hart said. “Taxes seem to continue to go up, yet so often, I hear government officials complaining that more money is not coming into the budgets. In reality, there are huge opportunities for savings simply by procuring energy and telecom at better rates, and more carefully scrutinizing electricity, gas, water, sewer and telecommunications bills. You just need the right tools and you need to know where to turn.”

Hart explained that not only is there money to be saved, but also precious natural resources and labor – further lowering the costs and burdens on taxpayers and environmentally conscious citizens. All too often, Hart said, it is all accounts payable can do to simply keep up with paying the bills that come in, which unfortunately are not carefully scrutinized for errors or overcharges because of the sheer volume, and the lack in-house knowledge and tools.

“Our software and services eliminate those problems and truly bring peace of mind to our clients,” Hart said. “For example, we recently found that a client had been paying the electric bill at a site for years that was out of scale with what the bill should have been for a site of that type. Since the usage pattern was established since inception, the higher usage was never disputed.”

“Cadence identified that the expense for this particular site was outside of normal parameters, prompting an investigation of the site’s electric usage patterns”, Hart continued. After months of working with the site manager and an electrician, the equipment and operation of the site showed that it was operating normally and utilized standard equipment as compared to similar sites. “However, we still weren’t satisfied, therefore our next step was to investigate the meter. When a request to change the meter was denied by the utility citing that the equipment was operating correctly, Cadence utilized its own resources to investigate the meter’s operation”, said Hart.

“Cadence identified that the meter wasn’t working properly, resulting in overstated billings to the customer,” Hart stated. “Cadence’s persistence in driving an acceptable resolution resulted in the customer being reimbursed $150,000 and avoiding on-going monthly expenses.”

Hart points to several such examples, while imploring government officials to at the very least investigate comprehensive, proactive expense management programs. He also speaks with pride at the government officials who have taken the initiative and leadership to begin outsourcing this monumental task, saving taxpayers millions or finding what they’ve called “a new funding source.”

Cadence software and services have assisted its clients in saving millions, by spotting waste and inefficiencies in billing rates, billing errors, and simple overspending in energy, leasing, and telecommunications.
