Taking a proactive approach to managing energy expenses can result in hard-dollar savings for most retailers. Indeed, the savings to be had through ongoing auditing of utility bills, better procurement of energy and other energy-related functions are often significant. But few retail companies have the required resources, expertise or time to do an effective job in-house. One alternative is to utilize the services of an outside expert. Along with maximizing savings, outsourcing allows a retailer to keep its eye on the ball when it comes to energy-expense management.
